Swans Down Peony Poppy (papaver somniferum)
Swans Down produces large 3 to 4 inch flowers in a frill
of white petals resembling a pompom. It makes a striking contrast to
other garden flowers, and even more so mixed with a poppy like Fire
& Snow. This beautiful annual poppy is easy to grow and often reseeds
itself. Or save seeds from the fully browned pods for next
season.
Sow seeds in early spring as soon as the ground can be worked.
Plant at 1/8 inch deep and cover lightly. Keep the soil moist and germinations
should take place in 14-21 days. Thin to 8-12 inches. Poppies prefer
full sun and require little water once established.
