Nicotiana Sylvestris
Sylvestris is native to Argentina and
is often called Woodland Tobacco. Gene sequencing has reviled N.
Sylvestris, along with N. Tomentosa, to be the 2 ancestors common to all modern day Tobaccums. It is a
good producer of leaves, but today is best know for its large trumpet
shaped white flowers. The leaves are densely packed on the stalk and
remain near the bottom of the plant. Flowers appear on top of a 3-4 foot
high stalk rising above the leaves and often form a cascading white
waterfall effect. Sylvestris is a striking addition to any flower
garden.
